New results with PIETIX

Mortellaro disease, or digital dermatitis, is a major cause of culling in dairy farming. It affects two out of three farms in France, and its incidence is often underestimated.

Today, traditional methods for treating foot rot often involve footbaths or spraying, which remain burdensome for farmers.

In order to limit livestock losses and improve animal welfare, Biodevas Laboratoires developed PIETIX, a patented feed supplement which, when incorporated into feed or minerals, limits the occurrence of new cases and restores the mobility of livestock.

Its unique mode of action, by managing oxidative stress and pain while stimulating the animal's natural defenses, helps reduce pressure and improve animal welfare.

The solution PIETIX has been on the market for over 10 years and continues to prove its worth, as demonstrated by the two latest trials conducted between 2023 and 2024:

Livestock farming 1Livestock farming 2
195 Prim'Holstein cows
Buildings: 240 cubicles
Milking equipment: 4 DE LAVAL robots
84 VL
Buildings: cubicles
Milking equipment: 2X8 milking parlor
Distribution protocol:
10 g/cow/day
From July 2023 to the end of January 2024, incorporated into the mineral feed at the factory.

From November 2023 to April 2024, incorporated into feed at the factory

Breeding 1:

42% decrease in the number of VLs with digit dermatitis lesions in 7 months.

Breeder's observations:

  • Fewer painful lesions.
  • No new cases, and the minor skin conditions that remain are healing easily.
  • Improved cow mobility in the barn despite the fact that cows are kept there until the end of lactation.

Breeding 2:

76% decrease in the number of VLs with digitated dermatitis lesions.

75.76% reduction in lesions in 5 months.

Breeder's observation:

  • The remaining lesions are less painful and dry out.
  • Improved cow mobility within the building compared to previous winters.
