Gut microbiota

Formerly called gut flora, this is the set of microorganisms (archaea, bacteria, fungi and viruses) present in the intestines. It constitutes a reservoir of enzymatic activity essential for digestion and the general physiology of the animal. As such, it influences health and is very sensitive to various parameters including stress, dietary transition and antibiotics etc.
