Poultry regularly face situations that can cause stress during their rearing. Vaccination, transfer, handling, and transport are all events that can affect their behavior and performance.
In this context, Biodevas Laboratoires has developed ZENICALM, a natural solution designed to help reduce nervousness in poultry and its impact on performance during stressful situations.
Field trials conducted in Thailand evaluated the benefits of ZENICALM in pullets and roosters intended for broiler breeding in two scenarios: vaccination and transfer to the laying house.
Test 1: ZENICALM during vaccination
The objective of the first trial was to evaluate the effect of ZENICALM following vaccination at 21 weeks against Newcastle disease and infectious bronchitis.
ZENICALM was administered over three days: one day before vaccination, on the day of vaccination, and one day after.
The animals' water intake was measured before, during, and after vaccination to observe how it changed across the different groups.
Water intake remained stable after vaccination

The group that received ZENICALM shows a 9% increase in water consumption, while a decrease was observed in the other two groups.
In this study, the animals’ continued water intake after vaccination serves as an indicator of their return to normal activity following this stressful situation. The observed results are thus consistent with the desired effect of ZENICALM.
Test 2: ZENICALM during transfer to the laying house
The second trial focused on the care of the animals during their transfer to the laying house at 23 weeks.
As in the first trial, ZENICALM the treatment was administered for three days: on the day of transfer and the three days that followed.
Mortality rates were monitored during the transfer and over the following three days.
A decrease in mortality was observed during the transfer

During this trial, the use of ZENICALM resulted in a 0.18% reduction in mortality.
