TÉNÉA: Protecting stone fruit during hot summer weather
Summer, with its high temperatures and sudden rains, can pose many challenges for stone fruit growers. Fruit skin quality, appearance and shelf life are often compromised by these meteorological vagaries. Fortunately, there’s a natural and effective solution: TÉNÉA.
What is TÉNÉA?

TÉNÉA is a 100% natural product, made from plant extracts and enriched with vegetable gums.Designed to be applied to ripe fruit before it rains, it forms a protective film on the surface. This film preserves and strengthens the epidermis, while encouraging water to run off, thus limiting the risk of micro-cracks, bursting or toad skin.
How does TÉNÉA work?
The combination of plant extracts and vegetable gums in TÉNÉA maintains the organoleptic qualities of the fruit, as well as its sugar content. But it also preserves and strengthens the skin to limit defects and losses.
By applying TÉNÉA before rainfall, we create an effective barrier against the harmful effects of cold water on the fruit’s skin, while allowing it to finish ripening.
A practice recommended by our growers
Nicolas Godard, vineyard manager at SCEA le Soleil des Collines (France), has been using TÉNÉA for several years on his apricot varieties with highly sensitive skin: Lady Cot, Anegat and Bergeval.
By applying TÉNÉA 12 hours before a more announced, its objective is twofold:
– Create a protective film on fruit to limit mottling.
– Limit water pumping through the leaves to prevent cracking.
Without TÉNÉA, we’d be harvesting earlier, before the rain, with less ripe fruit, impacting on the apricots’ taste quality. It’s an extra insurance policy for harvesting at their ripest.
