Oxidative stress, also known as oxidative pressure, is a type of attack on cell components. It occurs when reactive oxygen species (or free radicals) and/or reactive oxygen and nitrogen species enter the cell or form within it. These molecules are unstable and highly cytotoxic because they "oxidize" other molecules by removing an electron from them, which in turn makes them unstable.
