Etiolationis a plant's reaction to reduced or absent light: the stems elongate and weaken. There is a loss of green color (chlorosis) due to the disappearance and/or non-synthesis of chlorophyll, dedifferentiation and/or non-differentiation of chloroplasts, excessive stem growth (thinning), and reduced leaf growth and development.
